Helpful List for Event Organizers
List of things needed by Cavalry
· Location on the edge of camp, accessible to public but quiet at night and away from Band and parade square.
At one end of the British line.
· Ideal site is flat grassy, dry, not sandy or pavement, with some shade.
· Space in camp is needed for personal tents, horse stalls, or picket lines. ( Stalls seen in picture above).
And a Marquis dinning fly.
· A flat open area that is big enough to exercise the horses in. This allows us to add to the impression by staging training
sessions. This should be next to or close to the camp (within eyesight).
· Advise the cavalry of any fireworks, bands, night battles, explosions or large noises prior to the event so that the
cavalry can prepare for this eventuality.
· Bedding (straw or wood shavings) will be used by the horses. Most sites will provide straw for bedding
(which is different than old hay which will make horses sick).
· Water for horses (and us) to drink as well as for cooling down in hot weather. Horses drink large quantities
of water! Buckets will need to be filled almost continually. So a source of water in or very near camp is a must.
If a hose outlet is available on site please inform us. As we will make use of it in hot weather to cool down the
horses after exercise.
· Good quality horse hay to feed the horses, we will provide hay and grain. (this is included in any remuneration)
· Introductions Between Event Coordinator or his designate and Dragoon Unit Officer and Dragoon Riding Master
at the beginning of Camp set up to coordinate the camp placement.
. The average going rate per horse, including the shavings, hay, grain, transport to and from site and 1 or 2 sabre
demonstrations or mounted skill at arm displays to the public (other types of demonstrations are also available) is 250$
per Horse. This is fee is negotiable but may also be dependant on distance from our home stables. We are available for
events in the USA and Canada and can provide video upon request of said displays and camp set up.
. We are also available to do education days for schools. We have video of prior education days at other Museum sites and
can provide references to this fact on request.
. The Dragoons are also able to provide military Sabre Lessons, (in the Radaellian and British Cavalry traditions) as well
as riding lessons and skill at arms coaching.
